Our History and Approach to Counseling
Established in 1987, Brownsburg Guidance & Counseling Center has been serving the needs of Hendricks, Boone, and Westside Marion County residents for two decades. We are conveniently located in Brownsburg, only a 10 to 20 minute drive for most of our clients.
Our counseling services are designed to assist individuals, couples, and families resolve their issues without the stigma of "mental illness". The vast majority of those seeking counseling are functional, productive, mentally healthy individuals, without a history of serious psychiatric problems. It is this population of men and women our services are designed to help. We strive to provide the specific psychological tools and knowledge necessary to resolve your personal problems. This educational approach to counseling avoids the pitfalls of the medical psychiatric model with its emphasis on treatment, illness, and abnormality.
We offer a full range of services for adults, teens, and kids who are 6 years of age or older. Counseling is provided on an individual, couples, or family basis. Some of the issues we address in counseling include anxiety, depression, marital conflict, marital separation, couples and family problems, breaking up and divorce, blended family, personal growth and enrichment, stress management, job or school performance, grief and loss, low self-esteem, post traumatic stress resulting from abuse or other damaging personal experiences, behavioral issues such as anger management, and other kinds of "acting out" behaviors by adults, teens, and kids. We do not offer services for alcohol and drug abuse and/or addiction.
Fees are based on your gross family income and the number of dependents you support on that income. This is termed a "sliding fee scale". The range for the sliding fee scale is $65 to $125 per hour. Most clients will fall within the $75 to $110 fee brackets. All clients are charged in accordance with the sliding fee scale for their initial visit and/or until their insurance coverage for our services can be verified. Insurance plans will be billed at "reasonable and customary rates" which are typically $125 per hour. You are responsible for paying the amount not covered by your plan, or what is commonly termed the "co-pay". Please remember that your deductible must be met before our services can be reimbursed by your insurance plan. Until your deductible is met, your fee is based on the sliding fee scale determined in the first counseling session. If you do not have insurance, the sliding scale will be in effect for every appointment.
Our offices provide an informal, cozy, relaxing atmosphere, where client confidentiality is always assured. Because we are a private practice, there is a minimum of paperwork with no lengthy administrative procedures required to receive the counseling you are seeking. You are never a number and are given the personal consideration often lacking in large, non-private clinics.
