We believe Delaware County is a great place to live. We also believe that we can make it even better. So we work every day to improve our community. Sometimes that means sponsoring educational programs, other times it means granting funds for important community projects. On this site, you can learn about the full spectrum of work we do − and how to become a part of it.
Seven reasons to give a charitable gift now
Individuals should consider accelerating donations for 2011 and later into 2010 to assist charities and to take advantage of a rare convergence of legislative, tax and interest-rate factors.
Reason #1 Low income tax rate
Income tax rates are scheduled to rise on January 1, 2011. Those in higher tax brackets are more likely to realize greater tax savings by taking advantage of 2010's current tax rates and higher deduction limitations.
Reason #2 One-year absence of the limitation on certain itemized deductions
NO ESTATE TAXES. For 2010 only, there is no limitation on itemized deductions. In 2011, philanthropists can expect to see the return of the limitation on itemized deductions.
Reason #3 One-year absence of the personal exemption phase-out (PEP)
Reason #4 Rising capital gains taxes
It is often more tax efficient to simply transfer the asset to the charity, especially in 2011, when the tax rate on capital gains is scheduled to increase.
Reason #5 Roth IRA conversion opportunities
As of 2010, higher-income individuals are now eligible to convert traditional IRAs to Roth accounts. By accelerating several years' worth of charitable contributions into 2010, an individual may be able to realize a charitable contribution deduction equal to the tax liability created by the IRA conversion.
Reason #6 Historically low interest rates
2010 interest rates are historically low. Lower interest rates increase the value of certain charitable donations. This maximizes the benefit of certain charitable giving strategies to both the charity and the philanthropist.
Reason #7 A recovering securities market
