Have you ever been in a situation where you've needed to defend yourself or your family...and were not sure how to? Or, would your spouse or child know what to do in the same situation?
Well, you've found the website of the most dynamic Martial Arts school in Fort Wayne dedicated to showing you how to protect yourself and your family while learning traditional Martial Arts...and having fun doing it!

Most adults and children alike have no idea how to even perform a correct punch, let alone know what to do if someone grabbed, choked or hit them.

Think about it...Do you know what you would do right now if someone threatened you, your spouse or your child?
If you don't know how to defend yourself or your family, then NOW is the time to learn...not when you're faced with an attacker and unsure what to do.

We believe traditional Martial Art is the best way to learn to defend yourself, because this knowledge and skill has been passed down for centuries from people who actually used them to protect and defend their nations...and, many of these traditional techniques are used today by our modern military and police force to protect you!

Choosing a Martial Arts School isn't easy...Why?
Because there are many types of Martial Arts styles... and it can be confusing to understand the differences.

To us, Tae Kwon Do is the best of all Martial Arts, because besides its fame for foot and hand techniques, true Tae Kwon Do uses the entire body as a weapon. This makes it into a powerful self defense system that can be used in real life situations...while other Martial Arts focus only on hand techniques, forms or cardio workouts.
The Tae Kwon Do sport sparring segment of our classes is modern Olympic style. Many of our students are repeat multi-event State Champions who have qualified for the Nationals. We are proud supporters of the AAU Tae Kwon Do program. This is a great sport that adults and, especially, kids really enjoy!

We teach traditional forms and self defense techniques that have been used to help athletes, non athletes and kids improve their focus, strength, confidence, weight and more.

At Cunningham's Fort Wayne Tae Kwon Do you'll learn what to do if someone tries to hit, choke or grab you....and, you'll gain heightened awareness, so you can recognize and avoid potentially violent situations before they happen. Many of our self defense techniques work very efficiently whether standing or on the ground.

Of course, we have classes especially designed for kids, so they will learn real ways to defend themselves from attack...and how to get out of bad situations, safely. Your child will be treated with utmost respect and will be taught in a positive, disciplined atmosphere in our clean new facility.

Class size is limited to 30 people, so you get plenty of individual attention from the Master Instructor himself, Forrest Cunningham.

Our students come from all walks of life...including engineers, medical professionals, school teachers, business owners, law enforcement and full-time students.

If you want to learn how to properly defend yourself or your family...or you want your children to know how to fend off an attacker NOW is the time to Call Cunningham's Fort Wayne Tae Kwon Do at 260-471-2500 to set up your FREE lesson.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

Cunningham's Fort Wayne Tae Kwon Do
PS: I'm certified by the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) and the American Athletic Union (AAU), so you are assured you or your child is receiving the best instruction available. We are the only traditional Martial Arts school in town with standard 90 minute classes, which greatly enhances your physical conditioning and mental retention of the lesson material. This ensures you'll be better prepared to defend yourself when threatened.
PPS: Beware of programs that promote a fast track to black belt for one big up front fee...there is no short cut to mastering proper usable self defense techniques, only correct, repetitive physical motion and proper mental conditioning works. We do not rush anyone through our program, because we want you to be physically and mentally prepared to handle the unexpected. Take a look at the video below and you'll see what is possible after training at Cunningham's Tae Kwon Do. Enjoy!

Cunningham's Fort Wayne Tae Kwon Do originally began in the mid 1970's as Oh's Tae Kwon Do. Master Instructor Forrest Cunningham was taught directly by Grand Master Oh for twelve years leading up to Oh's retirement. In 2002 Master Instructor Cunningham received full ownership of the school and changed the name to Cunningham's Fort Wayne Tae Kwon Do. Our lineage traces directly back to the Mudokwan school or "style" of Tae Kwon Do and Kukkiwon (National Training Hall) of South Korea.

2. What is the minimum age for kids to start lessons? 5 years old.
3. What physical shape do you need to be in to start training? Training is based on each individual's needs.
4. How long does it take to get a black belt? In our system, with consistent and serious study, it takes an average of 4 years.
5. Why do you have a promotion test? To mark mile stones. To track and assess each individual's full level of ability.
6. What is the meaning of Tae Kown Do? It is the way of realizing one's full human potential through the study of foot and hand techniques.
7. What are forms? Forms are centuries old Martial Arts techniques that are performed in a pre-arranged sequence. Besides the self defense motor skills being developed, they help an individual increase balance, cardio, muscle stamina and flexibility. Forms are a great all around conditioning tool.

"As a parent and a student of Cunningham's Fort Wayne Tae Kwon Do School, I know belts for rank are earned with hard work and sweat. Our family tried other schools, but we were disappointed with the "assembly line" mentality of handing out advancements for rank. At Cunningham's the lessons are as a group. However, individual attention is given to each student to perform at his or her very best. The best physical and mental capacity, whatever their gender or age. Appropriate care is also ensured for differences in weight, physical abilities and gender. Master Cunningham encourages growth and understanding for each rank, never settling for mediocrity from any student. The lessons for self-defense, physical conditioning and respect for others are explained daily. These Lessons the student carries with them for the rest of their life. A parent truly empowers their child with all the benefits from this school." --Mrs. Kerry Hirschy
"I enrolled in Tae Kwon Do because I wanted to improve my physical condition, focus, strength, and confidence...but, most of all I wanted to learn self-defense strategies, so I could protect myself or my family if threatened. I've learned all this and much more...and, I would recommend Cunningham's Fort Wayne Tae Kwon Do to anyone interested in doing the same thing." ---Charles Carboneau
"Since I was young, I’ve always wanted to experience a martial art of some sort. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. My confidence has improved 110%. This is an extremely challenging and rewarding journey in my life. I know I’m getting the best possible training here. We earn our accomplishments and I’m proud to be in Cunningham’s Fort Wayne Tae Kwon Do."—Shondra Danforth
"I started training in Tae Kwon Do 11 years ago to supplement my morning gym workouts. I continued for this long because the school provides a rigorous workout in a safe, healthy atmosphere. Master Instructor Forrest has an incredible knowledge of physiology and muscle mechanics that he applies to the various movements and self-defense techniques that he teaches. And he always seems to have more to share. If you want to train in traditional Tae Kwon Do with practical applications, this is the school for you."—Denny Ruprecht, age 57
"My son, John, has been under the instruction of Forrest Cunningham for over 10 years. During this time, John has learned much from him; discipline and the skills needed to defend himself if need be. Forrest is a conscientious instructor and is always looking for ways to better his techniques and teaching styles so as to make it interesting and useful for his students. He gives his all to helping students be the best they can be. He definitely cares for his students and this is evident in the way he instructs and builds a rapport with his students. I know my son respects him and talks highly about him. I feel confident in my son’s ability to defend himself because of the instruction he has had at Cunningham’s Fort Wayne Tae Kwon Do." —Pepsy Nagel
"I enrolled first my son then my daughter with Master Instructor Forrest, after having experienced another school in town where I felt that belts were being "sold" rather than earned. The reason for enrolling my son, who is now 9, was to increase self esteem and self discipline. My daughter, who is now 10, soon wanted to also learn. Fast Forward 1 1/2 years; they are hardly the same children. My son has done a complete 180 and earned the Principal's Honor Roll in school. Both of my children have learned how to work harder, be proud of what you accomplish and to defend themselves. However, Master Instructor Forrest does not teach his students to immediately resort to physical defense. He teaches them to always use their words first when in a situation that they are able to. He teaches them to respect the skills he is giving them. My daughter is now a double gold medalist at the State Championships and my son is now a silver and bronze medalist at State. Master Instructor Forrest teaches the children what he believes in, not what is said in a book. Master Instructor Forrest also teaches the children that discipline, respect, and hard work carry a person throughout their life. Master Instructor has the children bring their report cards in to him for review, however, he also brings his "report card" (employment evaluation) in for the children to review, teaching them that in adulthood they will also be graded. His grade from our family is an "A+". The highest compliment I can pay someone as a mother is to say that I trust them with my children, and I definitely trust Master Instructor Forrest Cunningham with my children. Without question." —Ann Lothamer
