Lumineers- Lumineers are contact lens thin, custom made porcelain veneers that are bonded to the front surfaces of the teeth. They can be used to correct chipped teeth, broken teeth, discolored teeth, unsightly spaces, worn teeth and other cosmetic issues. This can usually be done with no reduction, or minimal tooth reduction (drilling),making the procedure more comfortable for the patient. Visit cerinate.com for more information.
Traditional veneers- In some cases traditional veneers which require reduction of the tooths front surface is the option of choice for a patient. Dr Kenfield will discuss with you each treatment option, and explain why he would recommend one procedure over another in your case. To do traditional veneers, Dr Kenfield will reduce the minimal amount required to achieve the desired result. An impression of the teeth is taken and the lab uses this to make the porcelain veneers. Temporary veneers are placed until the final veneers are ready to be bonded to the teeth.
Tooth colored fillings- Resin fillings restore a tooth while maintaining the tooths natural enamel color. They are bonded to the tooth and can provide years of service for the patient. Resin fillings are composed of a resin matrix with a glass or quartz filler added for strength. Since the resin filling bonds to the tooth, mechanical retention is not required to hold the filling in place, and less tooth structure needs to be removed. The tooth must be kept free of saliva and blood while bonding in order to produce an excellent bond.
Cerec Porcelain Crowns- When a tooth is broken or has a very large filling, a Cerec crown provides a cosmetic repair that will serve the patient for many years. Dr Kenfield will prepare the tooth by reducing its height and its sides so that the crown can be slipped over the tooth and bonded in place. The crown is designed with computer aided design technology, milled in the office out of porcelain, and is cemented to the tooth all in one appointment. No impressions or temporaries are needed.. Cerec Porcelain Onlays and Inlays- Dr Kenfield will recommend a Cerec onlay for a patient when a large filling needs to be replaced in a back tooth, or when a section of a back tooth breaks off. The porcelain onlay provides much more strength than a resin or silver filling while maintaining more tooth structure than a crown since less tooth reduction is required. This procedure is done in one appointment with the use of Cerec computer aided design technology. The result is a beautiful restoration that is quite strong. Cerec link
Traditional Porcelain Crowns- Just as with a Cerec crown, when a tooth is broken or has a very large filling, a porcelain crown or porcelain fused to gold crown provides a cosmetic repair that will serve the patient for many years. Dr Kenfield will prepare the tooth by reducing its height and sides so that the porcelain crown can slip over the tooth and be cemented in place. The patient will wear a temporary crown while the permanent crown is being made by the lab. Dr Kenfield will recommend a traditional porcelain crown for front teeth, and for certain situations for back teeth.
Whitening teeth (bleaching)- Whitening of the teeth is a simple procedure which can produce a significant cosmetic improvement in a short period of time. The whitening process is started by taking an impression of the patients teeth and making a clear, nearly invisible plastic tray which the patient wears for a prescribed period of time each day with a bleaching solution in it. Dr Kenfield uses a 10% or 15% solution of carbamide peroxide, will not damage the teeth, however, some patients may experience varying degrees of sensitivity during the whitening process. This is generally temporary and should improve once the treatment is finished. Over time, the teeth will begin to regain some color. A simple touch up is all that is required to regain the whitened appearance. In office bleaching tends to relapse faster than at home procedures. This is why Dr Kenfield will usually recommend the at home process. Some discolorations of the teeth respond to treatment better than others. Yellow hued teeth tend to whiten better than brown hued teeth, which in turn whiten better than gray hued teeth. Veneers are a better solution for the patient with grayish colored teeth.

Resin fillings (tooth colored fillings)- Resin fillings restore a tooth while maintaining the tooths natural enamel color. They are bonded to the tooth and can provide years of service for the patient. Resin fillings are composed of a resin matrix with a glass or quartz filler added for strength. Since the resin filling bonds to the tooth, no mechanical retention is required to hold the filling in place and less tooth structure needs to be removed. The tooth must be kept free of saliva and blood while bonding in order to produce an excellent bond.
Amalgam fillings are composed of elemental mercury, silver, tin, copper and other metallic elements. They have been used in dentistry for more than a hundred years to restore decayed teeth. Amalgam provides a strong, wear resistant restoration which is easy to use, and yet it is relatively inexpensive compared to other materials. They are used in the back areas of the mouth where chewing forces are the greatest, and for fillings where it is difficult to keep the deepest portions of the prepared tooth free of saliva or blood. Some have questioned the safety of dental amalgam due to its mercury content. While this is an issue that Dr. Kenfield watches carefully, to date, the Center for Disease Control, the US Public Health Service, the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the World Health Organization all have concluded that studies show that amalgam is a safe dental filling material.
Resin Modified Glass Ionomer is a tooth colored filling material composed of a mixture of acrylic acids, glass filler and acrylic resin. These are weak in nature, and Dr Kenfield uses these primarily in areas that will not need to handle chewing forces. This filling material is good for cavities that develop at the gumline on the cheek or tongue side of the tooth. For individuals who are prone to develop decay, they have the added benefit of releasing fluoride.

Dr Kenfield will recommend a traditional porcelain crown for front teeth, and for certain situations for back teeth
Gold Crowns provide a strong restoration which is not subject to wear or fracture. Because of its strength, these crowns can be made thinner than porcelain crowns. This means that less tooth structure needs to be removed in order to place a gold crown than a porcelain crown. The disadvantage of a gold crown is that it is not cosmetic. It is gold colored does not blend in with the adjacent teeth.
