Neal Paint & Wallpaper was incorporated in 1935 in Columbus with Winston Barr as manager. In 1936, Ernest W. Budd became manager and moved from Jasonville to Columbus with his family. In March of 1945, Mr. Budd died suddenly and his daughter, Jane Budd, managed the business until her brother, George W. Budd, returned from naval service in November 1945.
He then became president of the business, and it continued to grow with the community, providing goods and services such as paint, wallpaper, draperies, blinds and picture framing. In January of 1981, Mr. Budd retired and sold the business to Russell and Donna Fritz. Mr. Fritz was a longtime employee for the business since 1958. The business continued to serve the community continually updating and computerizing to maintain state-of-the-art business practices. Wayne Fritz joined the business in 1981, Eric Fritz joined in 1986 and both continued in the business gaining valuable hands-on knowledge in all phases of business operations. With the retirement of Mr. Fritz in 1997, Wayne and Eric Fritz purchased the business, and it continues to grow with the community under their management.
Wayne and Eric along with employees Toni Fritz and Pat Combs continue to provide excellent paint knowledge and experience with Benjamin Moore products, in-stock wallpaper, and special orders. Also complemented with custom draperies, blinds and other window treatments as well as picture framing. Color matching is a specialty of the firm, along with over 43 years combined experience in the paint and wallpaper related fields. The business was founded in 1935 with excellent products and customer service. Today, customer service continues to be the foundation for this business.
