9 Marks of a Healthy Church is a book that is recommended by the elders of Castleview Baptist Church. We have read through it together and make it required reading for all our future elders and pastoral interns. It serves as a helpful grid to measure theologically and philosophically our local church's priorities, not only on paper but also in practice.
The Trellis and the Vine by Colin Marshall and Tony Payne
In 2008, the staff of Castleview Baptist Church read an article published by Matthias Media out of Australia entitled, "The Trellis and the Vine." It served as a helpful way to think about our systems and our relationships within the church context and which ones were serving which ones. In 2010, to our delight, the book, The Trellis and The Vine, was release. The book detailed many of the points that were covered in the earlier article plus more. In a time when the American church is tempted to measure it's success on bodies, buildings, and budgets, this work has come along to help remind us that Jesus is looking for local churches to be known for making disciples. As the subtitle promises, this read will be paradigm shifting for you.
