Your car is a big investment, and maintaining it with proper car care is important. The following car care tips will help you to protect your investment while allowing you to enjoy your car for many years to come.
Car Care Tip #1 Break Your Car in Properly
During the first 1,000 miles of driving your new car, you should be careful to keep the speed of your car below 55 miles per hour, unless recommended otherwise by your car’s manufacturer, and accelerate only lightly or moderately, staying below 3,000 RPMS during accelerations. This allows the engine to be broken in properly. Avoid hauling heavy loads during the break-in period, and do not allow your new auto to idle for extended period of time as oil may not be sent properly to all parts of your engine during idle times.
Car Care Tip #2 Use Care in Everyday Driving
The way that you drive your car every day will impact the number of repairs that you will need to make to the car, and also how long the car will last. Avoid racing the engine of the car during start-up, especially if it is cold outside. Shift to neutral at red lights so that you can allow the engine to rest a bit while stopped. Avoid high speed driving and quick acceleration.
Car Care Tip #3 Time Your Gas Purchases
Check with the gas station where you purchase your gas to make sure that they use pump filters to filter out sediment and debris. If they don’t, go somewhere that does. If you happen to be at the gas station for a fill-up when an oil tanker truck is filling the station’s reserves, run the other way; the action of filling the underground tanks stirs up debris and sediment that can end up in your tank, clogging your fuel injectors and fuel filter.
