Modular homes are getting a lot of attention these days, but why? There’s a lot to do with cost savings, but there’s much more than that, too.

Modular homes are getting a lot of attention these days, but why? There’s a lot to do with cost savings, but there’s much more than that, too.

When it comes to modular homes, the savings are found in the bulk purchasing, building materials and the labor costs. Modular homes are different from built-on-site homes by being built at a factory before being shipped and sent to be put together. They can be completed in a matter of weeks instead of several months to possibly a year. By being built in a factory, it saves money on all of the supplies, since the company buys in bulk with all the material. These homes also save on labor costs, since the home will be done in half the time if that long.

The company building the homes buys all their materials in bulk, so when you purchase your home, you can usually get a discounted rate on all the materials that are required to build it. Same goes for the materials. Since your home will be built in the factory, covered and sheltered from outside weather, there are no unforeseen weather delays and multiple parts of the home can be worked on at the same time. It is then taken to the designated house lot, where all they have to do is put your home together for final assembly and inspection. This saves money on up-front costs, and can be a big savings in terms of time and labor.

Insurance, loans, taxes etc. are all more or less the same as a built-on-site home. And like a traditionally-built home, modular homes appreciate in value over time. Also, modular homes are ideal candidates for "green building homes," which are great for saving money in the long run, too.

Like many traditionally-built homes, you can add onto a modular home at a later date if you like. From the get-go, though, modular homes are customizable to your specific needs and wants. With direct extensions such as an extra bedroom or living room space, you can expand when your budget allows you to.
Modular home floor plans can range from various sizes and shapes of your home. Homes can be built on any size lot, ranging from small to large. The insides can be customized by the floor to the cabinets to all the colors of the house.

Whether buying your first home or getting a second home, it is always a great idea to research all of your options, builders and contractors and find out what is best for you and your family, as well as your budget. When it comes down to numbers, you can't go wrong with an eco-friendly modular home!
