This large sized book is a collection of enjoyable, readable essays by scholars of medieval history and culture compiled by Chief Consultant Constance Britten Bouchard, covering both the historical reality and the fabled knights of mythology.

Then we have the program for you! On Wednesday, December 1st at 7 pm (date change), author, historian, and beer aficionado Rita Kohn is coming to the West Lafayette Public Library for a book talk about her newest book, TRUE BREW: A GUIDE TO CRAFT BEER IN INDIANA. Rita will be joined by local craft brewers for a fascinating discussion of craft brewing in our area and throughout the state.
Copies of Rita’s book are available for checkout at the library so you can read the book before the discussion. Copies are available for purchase at Lafayette Brewing Company as well. For more information, call the library at 765-743-2261 or email refdesk@wlaf.lib.in.us. This event is free and open to the public. This program is funded in part by a grant from the Indiana Humanities Council.

The Library is pleased to display work by Al Pounders during the month of October. Al Pounders is professor emeritus of painting at Purdue University having taught at Purdue from 1966 to 1986. He came to Purdue from George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, Tennessee where he taught for 7 years. He received his MFA from Cornell University.

He has shown his work widely in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Berkeley and elsewhere in the US as well as in Italy. The paintings are mostly begun in Italy and developed further here in his studio in West Lafayette.

The children’s department of the library will be hosting a family craft day on Sunday, November7. Children and their families or care-givers may select one to twelve fall and Thanksgiving crafts to make for their homes. The choices will include a pinecone turkey, a turkey paper bag puppet, a turkey paper tube puppet, a fall or Thanksgiving doorknob decoration, a fall magnet, a leaf necklace, a small scarecrow, cheerleader and football player figures, 17th century people figures, paper baskets, an eye of God decoration, and a cinnamon scented paper apple pie. Come and relax with your family while you make these colorful decorations for your home. This event is free, and no registration is required. Children of all ages are invited to participate, but an adult must accompany children who are 8 years old or younger. If you have any questions about this event, please call the West Lafayette Public Library and ask to talk to a children’s department librarian. (765) 743-2261

German art critic and collector Wilhelm Uhde (Ulrich Tukur) was hoping for peace and solitude when he rented a rural country house in the last quiet days of the year 1914-he wasn't looking for new artists, and he certainly wasn't expecting to find a brilliant painter in the person of his maid-of-all-work, Séraphine Louis (Yolande Moreau).
Director Martin Provost won seven Césars in 2009-the French equivalent of the Academy Awards-for his biopic of the woman who would one day be known to the world as Séraphine de Senlis.
This film will be presented by WALLA at the West Lafayette Public Library at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, November 1st.
