Martial arts are a mystery to many people and I personally enjoy a good mystery. Let me briefly explain the martial arts in general so you have a better idea of the differences. There are numerous systems and styles, different origins based on which country an art came from or were influenced by. Some are traditional some are non traditional. Recently you have even heard the terms reality based or mixed martial arts.
To find what fits you best you need to ask yourself if you are looking for something that is just for sport, tournaments, meditative, only exercise, or a realistic approach to our modern streets, or perhaps you prefer a traditional unchanged art with old ways of thinking that may not sit well in a more aggressive world but will satisfy your needs or curiosity. All are fine and all have their own train of thought.
As a martial artist who has studied all of these, I prefer the more modern approach. After all, in today's society isn't it wise to stay in shape studying something that will also help you should you find yourself in harms way?
The arts I teach are all progressive methods. We continue to instill the values of the martial arts, all while teaching one to reach goals and maintain a fitness level at their own pace, while increasing your comfort zone and building your confidence.
I do not believe in just teaching a class with a strict set of standards where you either keep up or drop out. By the same token, I do not "sell black belts". All students participate and grow in their skills and are awarded for their progression with rank earned, not rank handed out for showing up or paying a fee. After all, would you want to find out that your instructor bought his rank on the internet and has no real knowledge or skills to pass on to you? Of course not!
My purpose is to help you achieve your goals. I am not out to have a million students or the largest school in the state. I take a different approach then most instructors, as I look at all my students and help them find their individual strengths and weakness. No two people are the same, nor should you expect everyone to learn the exact same way.
My methods are geared to help all who come to me to learn, understand, and grow as they climb the path to improve themselves both mentally and physically during their road to martial arts mastery.
If this is the path you wish to take, then you have found the right place to start. Our classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday nights. I look forward to helping you along your journey.
