DR. FEDORCHAK IS A NATIVE OF GARY, INDIANA, A GRADUATE OF HORACE MANN HIGH SCHOOL. HE ATTENDED INDIANA UNIVERSITY NORTHWEST, GRADUATING WITH HONORS. HE IS A RETIRED ASSOCIATE FACULTY MEMBER OF INDIANA UNIVERSITY NORTHWEST, HAVING TAUGHT ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY IN THE SCHOOL OF NURSING WHILE CONDUCTING RESEARCH AT INDIANA UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE. WHERE HE CO-AUTHORED THREE PUBLISHED PAPERS ON MIGRAINE HEADACHE TREATMENT.
HE LATER ATTENDED THE ILLINOIS COLLEGE OF PODIATRIC MEDICINE FROM 1979 -1983, GRADUATING WITH HONORS. HIS FIRST YEAR OF SURGICAL TRAINING WAS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO BILLINGS HOSPITAL, DEPARTMENT OF ORTHOPEDICS. A SHORT SIX WEEK STINT AT THE HOSPITAL FOR SPECIALIZED SURGERY IN DENVER, COLORADO WAS FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER YEAR OF RESIDENCY IN SURGERY AT THE OSTEOPATHIC HOSPITAL OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
HE IS BOARD CERTIFIED IN FOREFOOT, REARFOOT, AND ANKLE SURGERY BY THE AMERICAN BOARD OF PODIATRIC SURGERY. FELLOWSHIP IN THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF FOOT AND ANKLE SURGEONS WAS AWARDED IN AUGUST OF 1988. HE HAS PRACTICED PRIVATELY IN PORTAGE SINCE 1984 AND MOVED TO THIS PRESENT BUILDING LOCATION IN 1989.DR. FEDORCHAK PRESENTLY ENJOYS SURGICAL PRIVILEGES AT ILLIANA SURGERY CENTER (MERRILLVILLE), ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL (HOBART), METHODIST HOSPITAL. (MERRILLVILLE) AND ST. ANTHONY'S HOSPITAL (CROWN POINT).
DR. FEDORCHAK WAS THE FIRST PODIATRIC SURGEON IN NORTHWEST INDIANA TO BE TRAINED IN THE SWISS (AO) TECHNIQUES OF BONE HEALING AS THEY APPLY TO FOOT SURGERY. HAVING TRAINED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO, HE IS WELL VERSED IN THE USE OF SCREWS AND PLATES, ALLOWING PATIENTS TO AMBULATE AFTER SURGERY AND NEGATING THE USE OF CASTS AND CRUTCHES. A FIRM BELIEF IN OUTPATIENT SURGERY IS ADHERED TO WHENEVER POSSIBLE.
